3D Photo Museum: Walk-through 3D online shop for fine art photography

Instead of an ordinary website, we built a fine art photographer a museum you can walk through in the browser. Visitors stroll through four rooms, look out of the windows into a forest and can buy every picture on the wall directly as a high-quality print.

Shop: Prints in different sizes, papers and frames, worldwide shipping by zone, order confirmation by email. Payment via Stripe as the final step.

What we built

Walk-through exhibition: An entrance room with information panels and a tip jar through which visitors can support the photographer directly. Then four rooms, each with its own theme. Through the windows you see a forest with animals, and you can even sit down on a bench and look at the pictures at your leisure.
Controls for every device: On a computer you walk like in a game with keyboard and mouse, or simply click on the floor to go there. On a phone there is a joystick for walking and a pad for looking around. Everything is tuned to feel calm and pleasant.
Shop right in the room: A click on a picture opens a beautiful product page with all purchase options. Choose size, paper and frame, add to cart, done. The photographer receives the order and ships it himself.

Technical details

Real-time 3D gallery in the browser based on WebGL with integrated e-commerce: four themed rooms with capacity for around 600 works, adaptive quality system with texture budget and priority streaming, server-side price calculation, edition management and an admin backend for placing works via a wall plan.

Statt einer normalen Webseite haben wir für einen Fine Art Fotografen ein Museum gebaut, durch das man im Browser laufen kann. Besucher schlendern durch vier Räume, schauen aus den Fenstern in einen Wald und können jedes Bild an der Wand direkt als hochwertigen Druck kaufen.

Was wir gebaut haben

Begehbare Ausstellung: Ein Startraum mit Infotafeln und einer Kaffeekasse, über die Besucher den Fotografen direkt unterstützen können. Danach vier Räume, jeder mit eigenem Thema. Durch die Fenster sieht man einen Wald mit Tieren, man kann sich sogar auf eine Bank setzen und die Bilder in Ruhe betrachten.
Steuerung für jedes Gerät: Am Computer läuft man wie in einem Spiel mit Tastatur und Maus oder klickt einfach auf den Boden, um dorthin zu gehen. Am Handy gibt es einen Joystick zum Laufen und ein Feld zum Umschauen. Alles ist so abgestimmt, dass es sich ruhig und angenehm anfühlt.
Shop direkt im Raum: Ein Klick auf ein Bild öffnet eine schöne Produktseite mit allen Kaufoptionen. Größe, Papier und Rahmen auswählen, in den Warenkorb, fertig. Der Fotograf bekommt die Bestellung und verschickt selbst.

Technische Details

Echtzeit 3D Galerie im Browser auf WebGL Basis mit integriertem E-Commerce: vier thematische Räume mit Kapazität für rund 600 Werke, adaptives Qualitätssystem mit Texturbudget und Prioritäts-Streaming, serverseitige Preisberechnung, Editionsverwaltung und Admin-Backend zur Platzierung der Werke per Wandplan.
